We are the largest Torfaen re-use and recycling enterprise operating in Blaenavon, the project aims to not only drive forward a clean and green Torfaen but a project to alleviate material poverty of the poorest and most disadvantage members of our community.
Waste minimisation is a huge and wonderful benefit of our work and addressing social need and inequalities is core to our delivery.
What we do
The project collects unwanted household goods from within the community and distributes back out to people on low incomes.
All our operations are compliant with EU Health and safety practices and staff are trained in PAT testing to ensure electrical safety of all WEEE.
Last year seen us divert over 165 tonnes of items from entering landfill and over 3850 people supported with access to affordable furniture.

Collections are FREE for all Torfaen residents, items that are collected (household, garden, bedroom, kitchen, and whitegoods) are cleaned, repaired, or refurbished and then redistributed back out to the community via our public showroom in Blaenavon.

House and Office Clearances
Circulate are very active in carrying out ethical home clearance across Torfaen, at a low affordable rate, last year we carried out over 58 home clearances in Torfaen and four large office clearances. Combustibles, wood, furniture, and metal items were collected and all of which are repaired, cleaned, and put back into reuse some of which have supported third world countries with surplus educational resources.
House Removal Service
Circulate Recycling provide a low-cost removal service to residents in Torfaen. We offer a price guarantee, it is customised and can be booked in advanced and pay later. Whatever and wherever they are moving we strive to make the operation easy, stress free and convenient.
Portable Appliance Testing Service
A fully accredited PAT testing centre, we support community halls and local organisations in ensuring the electrical equipment and appliances are safe and reach health and safety standards.
Homestarter Packs
Our home starter packs are for those who have moved into a new tenancy but have no funds to purchase items. Our packs contain all the basic homeware, from beds, to sofas and whitegoods. Kitchenware and other essentials are also provided. Depending on the individual circumstances we other packs are also provided such as bedding, towels, cleaning items, pet food, and baby products are available. Bedding packs include duvet, covers and pillows.
Other Policy Drivers
Circulate operate ‘Give It Away, Take It Away’ events which encourages residents to donate unwanted but reusable goods and take away useful second-hand items for free. We are in the planning stages to run a programme of four events throughout the next year at a variety of community venues, to ensure that everyone in our community can donate goods and pick up needed items for free, providing the double service of promoting re-use and recycling while also alleviating poverty.
In addition, we run bi-monthly recycling road shows and educational events at community venues throughout the North of Torfaen, this allows us to take the Garnsychan project out into the community, expanding our reach and taking our service to the people. This programme takes Garnsychan to community venues so that local people can access affordable recycled goods and learn about the environmental benefits of re-use and recycling. The programme of road shows has a positive environmental impact by promoting recycling and diverting usable items from landfill, while providing our disadvantaged community with the opportunity to purchase low-cost goods and services.
